Hello!

Picture
Welcome to my website!

My name is Beth and I have a condition called Temporomandibular Joint Disorder (TMJD).  This means that the discs that sit between the Condyles (bones of the jaw) are permanently dislocated. I have suffered from this for five years and I have received various treatments and tried different medications to attempt to improve the condition.

Unfortunately the treatment has not been successful and the bones in my jaw have worn away considerably and the pain has increased each year as my condition worsens. The headaches are constant and the jaw pain ranges from an everyday ache to unbearable pain. A few of the other symptoms are neck and back pain, tiredness and an over sensitive central nervous system.

I have now made the decision to go to America to have treatment using Neuromuscular Dentistry, which is a non invasive treatment using splints over the course of twelve months. Over the last couple of years I have spoken to other TMJD sufferers and this course of treatment has had the highest success rate. I am in contact with a couple of my doctor's patients who have had significant improvement from the start of their treatment and although it is a big step I believe this is my biggest chance of getting better.

I have made plans to move to Boston, USA in January 2013. The big challenge for me is funding the treatment as it is not covered by insurance and it costs about £25,000.  In the UK TMJD patients also have to pay themselves as it is not offered by the NHS.  My US Visa also does not allow me to work whilst in America. We have started to raise money through bake sales, raffles, sponsorships etc and we are going to keep this going while I am in America receiving treatment.

I would be grateful for anything you might consider contributing towards the cost of my treatment and subsistence while in the States.  Please contact me for further information about my condition or treatment plan.
